Jamboozie: $10 at the door? Estan Locos !

By George Magazine

I remember the first Jamboozie not that many years ago. The price to get in was then $5 at the door. As it got later, they weren't even enforcing the $5 fee to get in anymore. I think the people staging the first Jamboozie were half-way happy just to get people going out there. This year, the admission price has skyrocketed 100%, all the way up to $10.Actually, it depends on what information you go with. I had read that pre-sale tickets were going to be $10 and $15 at the gate.  That's just to go in;no complimentary drink or taco or anything. If you get thirsty and want a coke or beer, you're going to be forking over big bucks.
I don't know what it is about these events. The people staging them appear to get greedy in a hurry. It no longer is about just having a good turnout and organizing a good show. You have to realize that when the WBCA leaders were planning all this, someone conciously made a decision to jack up the prices.

I don't know if the food is going to be good or if the there will be any good bands playing that night. The only thing that is certain at this point, is that as far as the cost goes, we're all being Jamboozled.

  1. Someone or several are getting a huge profit on the the cities dime. The irony on this no one questions if the city is being compensated for the services taxpayer's provide.

  2. Good point. I mean 10 bucks JUST TO GO IN. That' ridiculous as far as I'm concerned. I'm guessin if you go in, buy a coke and a taco, you've already spent about 16-18 bucks. Why are the vendors allowed to charge so much for the food they sell? I know the city gets a share of it but it still isn't right. Thanks for the comment.

  3. Ask the Laredo Main Street office. They have the planning committee that decides the map, the prices, the security, the clean-up company they are going to hire, etc.

Maybe they are jacking up the prices to cover for not charging vendors at the Laredo Farmers Market? Ha! Just making wild guesses, I should really ask them rather than just wonder aloud.

  4. WBCA doesn't sponsor Jamboozie. It just happens at around the same time. And why shouldn't you pay? Sure, it would be nice to have a free street festival in Laredo, but at the same time, you pay to go to a concert, right? And you pay for the beer at the concert? Why not pay for this? And if you don't want to pay, you don't have to go. As the festival has gotten larger and larger, obviously Laredoans don't mind. The question is, why do you?
(I meant collective you, not you personally.)

  5. Yeah a concert depends who is preforming might be worth the cost but WBCA and this Laredo is that starved for entertainment? Both WBCA and this are gaining huge profits on you the taxpayer. Yes it is worth checking into as Key Rose did for the elaborate project at the old bridge where the renters have missed several months on rent payment.

  6. True, If I don't want to go, I don't have to........but then that's one less thing to blog about huh? That's the beauty of it, you go, pay, and then as a bonus get to complain about it.Thanks for the comment(s)
