It used to be about Character, Courage & Loyalty |
As the Laredo Morning Times reports :
The council also heard an update on preparations for the PONY League to host the South Region Super Bronco tournament for the second time beginning June 30.If 82 teams participated in last year's tournament, (doesn't say how many were local) it sounds like the league is doing fine and it will surely bring in more money to the city's coffers. As I have expressed before, it's not this economic windfall that's a problem, it's how soon everyone forgets about those who do not have the $100 to joint the league. It's also about shutting out Little League out if it's traditional home fields. Increasingly, results are measure in revenue and nothing else.
PONY president Richard Rosas said the tournament would bring 180 youth baseball and softball teams to Laredo from June 30 to July 10.Last year, 82 teams participated in the tournament. He said the city would see demand for 3,000 hotel rooms during the tournament.
“We’re using the whole city so everybody gets impacted one way or another,” Rosas said.
“It’s a safe place to play; that’s the message we’re sending out.”
