As far as jobs created per project, Mayor Salinas should do like Joe Biden does- Sorta |
I think it was just last night that Pro8News had Henry Cuellar and Mayor Salinas on talking about a multi-million dollar grant for Laredo. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the City of Laredo the money for the purpose of improving the Canal Street drainage channel. Pro8News reported:
Wednesday Cuellar was on-hand to present city officials with more than $3.7 million awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. It will aid in improving the drainage channel adjacent to Canal Street between San Francisco and Mc Pherson Avenue. What I found surprising was, that during these times when jobs are at a premium, there was no mention whatsoever of how many jobs, if any, this infusion of the nearly 5 million dollars will bring to the Gateway City. I think that everytime a grant or "award" is given to our city, it should be accompanied by a report of the expected number of jobs that specific grant is expected to create.
"It's important because we were having flooding even with an inch of rain,” Councilman Rendon said. The goal is to reduce more than 3 feet of water surface elevation across the north central area by constructing about 5,000 linear feet of concrete on the drainage channel.
Those living and working in the Retama and Cherry Hills subdivisions will soon seen those changes."It's going to help over 600 homes and businesses. That's a lot of people that.. once the city does the work I think they can sleep better at night,” said Cuellar. The city is adding an additional $1.2 million increasing the projects funds to $5 M.
All stimulus $ requires quarterly reports of number of jobs added/retained as a result of the project. There is also a gov website that reports This info @ stimulus.gov
