|They didn't even bother to use green!|
I was watching Pro8news last night but I might as well have been watching Saturday Night Live. I had the audio down low (as I usually do) when I saw a clip come on that showed a Texas highway sign with black tape over the lower part of it. I turned up the volume (reluctantly) to find out that this is the latest strategy (joke) the city is using to try to lure tourists to the Gateway City. Please don't ask "Gateway to where" because I won't be able to tell you. But I can give you a hint: it's the part of the sign that was blacked out.
The brains at the City, Chamber and'/or LCVB have decided to completely do away with any mention of Nuevo Laredo for fear of scaring away tourists. I think that if people are coming in and are already on I-35 South, they probably have a pretty good idea that they're heading for the border. Border with what country? Again, I can't say.
I guess we can logically expect the next step will be to do away with every single sign, announcement, radio station, etc that uses Spanish to communicate. Afterall, when people ask "Why is there so much Spanish around here"?, How are we supposed to answer ?
But as the Mayor said "Obviously, we're a family". I guess we now know who the Mayor thinks the black sheep is.
