How Low Can You Go? UISD happy with setting the class rank bar low

UISD's version of the Limbo Rock may hurt students' college success

The Laredo Morning Times is reporting today a distinct difference in how both local school districts will handle the new, more difficult STARR state exam as it pertains to class rank. At Laredo Independent School District, the decision is that students' scores on their initial exam WILL be included when determining their class rank. LISD officials believe that this will motivate students to take the STARR more seriously and strive to do well.

On the other hand, UISD again seems to be dropping the ball. Their decision is that STARR will NOT affect students' class rank. This will make it possible for students to be highly ranked in their class with low or even failing scores in their STARR tests. This is essentially a dis-service to the parents and students at UISD who seem to care more about how the district looks than the education of their students.

I guess decisions such as these are well worth a $25,000 raise.

  1. Students who work hard and take their studies seriously will pass any test. Those who fail...work harder!
