Dagnabbit, McAllen is not only eating our lunch, now they're also eating our merienda. It looks like McAllen will be the first city in the South Texas/Valley region to get a Corner Bakery Cafe. The McAllen store is slated to be opened during the first half of 2012. The Laredo store is expected to be open within 4 to 5 years.
It's yet to be seen whether the new bakery on the block will be able to compete with local Panaderias such as Pano's, La Mejor Pan and La Reynera. Although from the looks of the picture above, it looks like Corner Bakery Cafe will cater to an entirely different clientele, namely the Starbucks crowd of post-Yuppiedom.
