Corner Bakery Cafe coming to lunch-eating McAllen........and THEN to Laredo

Dagnabbit, McAllen is not only eating our lunch, now they're also eating our merienda. It looks like McAllen will be the first city in the South Texas/Valley region to get a Corner Bakery Cafe.  The McAllen store is slated to be opened during the first half of 2012. The Laredo store is expected to be open within 4 to 5 years.

It's yet to be seen whether the new bakery on the block will be able to compete with local Panaderias such as Pano's, La Mejor Pan and La Reynera.  Although from the looks of the picture above, it looks like Corner Bakery Cafe will cater to an entirely different clientele, namely the Starbucks crowd of  post-Yuppiedom.

From Enhanced Online News
(DALLAS, TX)--Dallas-based Corner Bakery Cafe today announced its most recent franchise deal to bring seven new locations to the South Texas region in less than five years. This new deal with restaurateur Bernardo Castillon brings the total number of planned franchise locations up to 45 in a state that already boasts 23 company-owned and franchised Corner Bakery Cafe locations. Castillon’s first cafe will open in McAllen, Texas in 2012, with six additional locations planned for Corpus Christi, Laredo, Brownsville and Harlingen.
