Another one bites the dust: SA lands 250 jobs with new call center
Next time you want to ask a question or make a comment about your latest J.Crew purchase, you very well might be talking to someone in the Alamo City. Mario Hernandez of the San Antonio Economic Development Council has just announced that J. Crew has selected San Antonio as the location for its new call center. According to the San Antonio Express and news, a selection-site consultant for J. Crew first contacted the SA development foundation in October.
It is expected that by this summer, the center will employ about 270 full time employees as well as at least 100 more part time and/or seasonal workers. The center will be providing e-mail, phone and live-chat customer service for the New York based apparel company. Although no information has been released in regards to the salaries the center's employees will be receiving, it is expected to be competitive with similar jobs in the area.
Laredo has only one call center:Convergy's which has been in town about 6 years. Before losing the J.Crew call center to San Antonio, Laredo had recently lost another call center to El Paso. These customer service centers have been one of the few sectors of the economy that have enjoyed continued growth.
