Come dices??

You'd be smiling to if you had such good fringe benefits

Who even knew that the Mayor and Seedy council were getting reimbursed $500 a month for food allowance? Wow, what have they been eating? Also, is that in addition to the filet mignon that they have every first and third Monday at the seedy council meetings?

Well, it seems that they will now be eliminating (wait there's more) this $500 monthly allowance and replacing it with 2 (2 x $250) other allowances. They will now be able to get reimbursed an additional $250 for gas, even if gas has been going down AND an additional $250 for home office allowance!  For a grand total of 750 tax payer bucks according to the agenda item below.

OK, this sounds like a job for the IRS. Here's how it appears in the, hot off the press, official agenda for this coming Monday, December 19th.

Amending Ordinance 2007-O-097 defining necessary expenses which may be reimbursed to the Mayor and City Council pursuant to Section 2.02 of the City Charter by eliminating the food allowance line item ($500.00/mo.) for each councilman, and reallocating those funds for each councilman as follows: adding $250.00/mo. for mileage reimbursement; $250.00 increase for home office reimbursement ($750.00 total upon qualification); and, increasing cell phone reimbursement by $25.00/mo.

  2. That's not enough. Cost of running city business is costly. They try their best. Problem is with whiners like you who think they should pay to serve. Why don't you run for council and see the time commitment it takes to serve. This should be reimbursed on some level. It is like.a full time job. Your the same person who says things like, "all politicians ate crooked"' " get ride of all of them.". While this sounds tough it really offers no solutions and only shows ignorance on your part. Offer something instead of lambasting $500 bucks. That's pennies compared to the overall muni govt.

  3. Anonymous above, you're an idiot. We all know all the city council and city manager office are corrupt fools who are there to milk the system and look out for their business and their pockets.

We are aware of them, not one of them is honest. Stop your bullshit.

  4. We all don't know that and neither do you. Go ahead and PROVE it. Words mean nothing pal. Not one of them is honest so they are all crooks. WOW! We should just get rid of all of them and live without a governing body. Prove one allegation, just one. Or are all the judges and cops and all other elected officials crooks too? It's dumb, idiotic comments like yours that generalize entire groups of people with no solid facts. I'll bet you don't vote either. I mean why would you if they are all on the take. Go back to your loser life and keep complaining without offering solutions. I'm sure you'll feel better making a difference with all the good you bring to the table. I would say typical laredoan but dumbasses live everywhere.

  5. If you are aware of who the crooked and corrupt politicians are then take your evidence to the authorities so we can prosecute. Just because you say it does not make it so. What a fool.

  6. Hey Anon, how do you get time to post when you're so busy defending the status quo and those in elected and appointed office with such a broad brush. Are you one of them? You keep reading too much into these posts. The above post is very much factual with a few questions- should we not ask questions? I think your comments actually give us a view into your way of thinking so it's obvious you think many of them are corrupt- maybe you just want to make sure how much the public knows. Also, generalizations are all over your whining rants. Get your own blog and educate us all on the advantages of living under a dictatorship which is what you seem to prefer. Thanks for your input.

  8. Max...anon here...you are just plain dumb. Your post makes no sense. Not that it really matters but are you educated past the sixth grade? And I ask that with all respect because arguing with the uneducated is really pointless. How is "it obvious" that I think they are all corrupt? How do you extrapolate that thought based on the words I wrote. I am dumbfounded by your thought process. What dictatorship are we living under? If you are so noble then run for office to make change. Just plain dumb.

  9. I read this as a "re-imbursement" item. Meaning, the city council person would get paid upon producing reciepts and proof of mileage/food consumed/ or office expense.

These do not appear to be checks paid out with no back up documentation.

And the words "up to" put a limit on re-imbursement.

PS, IRS states mileage payments are now $.555 cents per mile. So, to reach the $250 payment, the office holder needs to log 450 miles of driving. Not hard for one month.

These funds being allocated are nothing compared to the $500,000 allocated to each councilman for "discresionary" spending. This is where the real corrupt spending comes into play. This fund is nothing more than a political re-election fund being paid by the taxpayer. PS, anyone who challenges the council person does not get a dime from the city. This is where the real focus of outrage should be.

  10. Actually, only made it to the 5th grade but even so its enough to get you all bent out of shape. Perhaps you should go back to your Fox News/Andrew Breibart diet where you're sure to find other people who chose to remain ignorant. These local blogs are wayyyy over your head but thanks for participating. 'Nuff said.

  11. I agree with you Tom Wade on the discretionary spending being nothng but pork barrel. Just this past week, some of the seedy council decided to play santa claus with taxpayer money. That's a good cause if handle correctly but they should not let it appear to be coming out of their own pocket; a good deed to be rewarded by votes come election time.

  12. Max, I can't remember ever hearing a politician thanking the taxpayers for paying for something. They all say, "Money I brought you", like it comes from their pocket.

These discretionary funds should be deemed illegal. Or at the least reduce them to $10k.

PS to Plain Dumb....I don't know Max personally, but I would bet each city council person's discretionary funds that Max is not a big fan nor watcher of Fox News, or Andy Briebart. So, in that sense, your moniker fits like a glove.

  13. Tom Wade must feel strange being the 1% in the land of 99% dumb Mexicans.

  14. I don't feel strange here, and the percentage of dumb Mexicans equals the precentage of dumb (insert race, creed or sex here.)

What does drive me crazy about Laredo is the lack of ambition the citizens have for this city.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well said Tom Wade.

I would like to add, that there's too many dumb Mexicans in Laredo. Way too many.

They keep voting for the same idiots over and over, because they got a free bumper sticker.

That's all it takes in Laredo, a shiny bumper sticker.

Then they gave that corrupt rat Carlos Villarreal more power in the last election.

  16. I try not to get caught up into politics. It's a sensitive subject for me. They say that every participant/voter counts. I remain neutral to all of this. I will leave with this though, that I feel like mostly every councilman/vice president/president/city and government official can't be trusted. It's mostly about money. It has always been about the money.
