Free market system hits highwater mark with Yoga Dogs & Kitten calendars

That's the beauty of the free market system. There's always someone willing to buy almost anything. Now, a San Antonio photographer has come up with several animal yoga calendars. There's not only Yoga Dogs but there's also a Yoga Puppies plus Yoga Kittens. These 2011 calendars are going for between $12 to $14 each. The photographer is Daniel Borris and his inspiration for this project came from his own wife who happens to be -what else- a yoga instructor. Now, there's absolutely no reason at all that there cannot be a Yoga Tlacuache Calendar, no reason at all.

Toys For Tatts : As long as it's for a good cause

Ok here's one I hadn't heard before. An Edinburgh, Texas tattoo parlor is offering tattoos in exchange for  new  toys. It's all part of an effort to raise toys to be distributed at Christmas to abused and neglected children being cared for at Rainbow Room, an organization dedicated to helping such kids. The catch is that anyone wanting to get a tattoo has to present a new toy WITH receipt showing a cost of at least $25. The even is being sponsored by 281 Tattoo studio in Edingburgh.

Eva Longoria working on Border "Soap" aka novela

From tvsquad.com. comes a story about what Eva Longoria has been keeping busy with lately. One of her projects apparently is based on a "border town" but no word of whether it's a bonafide real town or a fictional figment of her imagination.
Apparently starring on one of ABC's most popular series -- not to mention three movies that are currently in post-production -- still leaves Eva Longoria enough free time to develop new TV shows.
Marriage troubles can't hold the
'Desperate Housewives' actress back -- Longoria and her production company, Unbelievable Entertainment, are working on three new shows. According to Deadline Hollywood, the Texas border town soap 'Sendera' (with 'Cold Case' actress Kathryn Morris) and 'Parenting by Committee' are for ABC, while 'Aztec' is being described as a potential miniseries for Starz.

'Sendera,' a soapy drama about a Texas border town, follows two rich families "locked in a struggle for power, land, sex and legacy," Deadline reports. The Shakespearean-sounding drama will presumably also feature a pair of star-crossed lovers from the dueling clans, one based in Mexico and one in Texas, but that's just speculation on our part.

Ol' Henry Cuellar gets noticed in Dallas Morning News

Yo Henry, what's this I hear about you wanting tax cuts for the rich bro??

By now you might have heard that Henry Cuellar, US congressman from Laredo is not only for extending the "middle class tax cuts" but also the "tax cuts for the rich" as well. He was on the Local news yesterday stating his positions. After affirming that he wants the tax cuts to continue for those making less than $250,000, he spoke of allowing all tax cuts to continue "maybe for a year". The Dallas Morning News picked up on the story and reported :
Even some Texas Democrats don't want to raise taxes on the wealthy.
Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, represents one of the poorest congressional districts in the state, where just 1.1 percent of Laredo taxpayers earn more than $200,000, according to The News' analysis.
Nonetheless, Cuellar said he thinks tax rates should remain where they are, at least temporarily.
"We all represent a district, and mine is a poor district," Cuellar said. "That is one factor, but my position is to extend all of them. I think we need to wait for the economy to get a little better."

News! Highschool choir to sing with Foreigner (Didn't that already happen here?)

Member of the Dennison Choir practice for their upcoming performace with Foreigner
You can't blame the local newspaper in the Sherman-Denison, Texas area for announcing that their highschool choir will be singing onstage with the rock group Foreigner. However, I was a bit surprised to read it in the Huffington Post, a nationally-recognized website. Afterall, didn't that already happen here in Laredo? I think it was about a year ago when Foreigner came to town and one of the local highschool choirs joined in singing "I want to know what Love is". How come it didn't make any national news-that I can recall anyway.
Repeatedly, that seems to be a real problem with Laredo. Those in charge of promoting our city in a positive light seem to be asleep at the wheel. Just for example, how unique are Los Matachines? Does every other town have such a unique group in its culture? I am guessing the answer is no. The point is that if something as apparently unique as Los Matachines gets little, if any, publicity- then what will? I don't think that even a relatively huge event such as the WBCA  ever gets mentioned on any of the national broadcasts. What's that....maybe it's better that way?  I know, George Washington and Laredo aren't usually found in the same sentence.

Any update of Chucky Cheese?

No doubt playing to a packed house!
I had heard that Chucky Cheese was coming to Laredo sometime this December. I don't, however, recall the specific date. In any event, I was just thinking about how many mascots appeared on LaSanbe's Christmas parade video. I'm becoming more convinced that a mascot convention is a good fit for Laredo. The reason I mention Chucky Cheese is that it would be an excellent place to announce the plan. Afterall, some of the most famous mascots are from Chucky Cheese (don't ask me to name one). Can you imagine going with your family on opening night just to find that you, as humans, are outnumbered by 2 to one?
What if a brawl broke out, like that time, the Ohio Bobcat took down the Ohio State Brutus. Talk about publicity for the Gateway City. The best part is that more than likely only the blog(s) would have actual video footage of the catastrophe. LCVB, are you listening?

Not too many ride Yonkas just for fun

Granted, this picture was probably  not taken anywhere near Laredo
I was driving Westbound on Lyon street last night and I saw about 10 young teens with skateboards in their hands. I didn't give it much thought, I just figured they were on their way home from some skate park. Well, I had to stop at a red light. I'm thinking it might have been Meadow, not sure. When I proceeded, I noticed these kids going downhill at a pretty good rate of speed. None of them had helmets and they were kind of too close to the passing cars but they seemed to having a good time. They do need to be more careful, but then again I remember riding our yonkas down the loma at Clark Boulevard and down the LCC overpass. That was of course, wearning no helmets (were there any at that time?) and hands free.

So I guess these kids are just more daring and more skillful that bikes don't do much for them anymore. I started to think that for the most part, when I do see people on bikes, it's those guys who are all dressed up for the part. They got their bike pants, weird-looking helmets, gloves and sunglasses. So naturally, the question I had was "Doesn't anybody ride their yonkas simply for fun anymore?" I admit I have seen some riding a low-rider spyder bike to go buy a cuarto. But, I guess teens start driving so early and many of them own a car that there's a great number of them that simply bypass the yonka stage.
